Today's Election headline ...

I have two questions related to the headline issue:
1. My paper foolishly had a headline that read: "Republicans lose House, retain Senate."
Obviously, that was wrong.
So my second question is:
Is this an example of newspapers becoming more irrevelant because by the time we go to press the results aren't fully calculated? Or was there just some very poor decision making in my newsroom last night?

Out here it was:

IT'S D'S DAY. Inside: Blue's coups: Democrats' dog has day

and

Ritter wins easily;
Dems grab House

It was an incredibly poor decision. I don't know when you guys put the paper to bed, but Dems were leading in both races still out when deadline hit.

Never a good idea to make a declaration when all the results aren't in yet.

Well we are in the Central time zone and I know I saw on TV that the Republicans held the Senate around the time I left the office, of course at the bar CNN suddenly said it was tied, so I am guessing it was just terrible decision making.
