Russia detains a Wall Street Journal reporter, accusing him of espionage.



In addition to his own paper, and the US State Department, a number of free press and freedom of expression organizations are working to get him out.

Matt Taibbi worked for the Moscow Times. Gershkovich used to work for the Moscow Times.

Matt Taibbi has nothing to do with this. And nobody should be wishing that any person, journalist or otherwise, be held hostage by Russia with threat of a gulag hanging over them.

What Gershkovich is facing is terrible. In my opinion, this is actually a reminder of what distinguishes the U.S. from Russia. ... Matt Taibbi is free to do his thing here, no matter what you think of his work.
