Description:
The Sterling Journal-Advocate, in Sterling, Colorado, is seeking a full time sports reporter to cover high school and junior college sports in Logan County as well as active city and summer recreation programs. The newspaper prints six days a week and maintains a website and social media presence.

The primary responsibility will be writing articles for the daily print edition and website, but the position also includes photography and some video and page design.

The editorial staff is small and works hard to provide news from throughout our rural, agricultural community. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, learns quickly and is comfortable with the evolving world of digital news. A Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field is preferred; previous experience in the field is a plus.

Sterling is the largest city in the northeastern part of the state, with a population of just under 15,000. It is less than two hours from both Denver and Fort Collins.

We offer a competitive wage and benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, Company-paid life insurance, a 401(k) retirement savings plan, and immediate eligibility for paid time off.

Interested individuals should send resume, with salary requirements, to jobs@dailycamera.com. Please enter "Sports Reporter" in the subject line of your email.

The Sterling Journal Advocate is a division of Prairie Mountain Media.

That's a salary range of $7.21 to $9.61 per hour.

Wow.

If you're an Outdoors writer, you should be able to live in a tent. Amirite?
BOOM! Saved $7,000 a year in rent right there.
Hunt for food and tend some crops (You're an Outdoors writer after all!) and BOOM! Huge savings on the ol' food bill every month.
This job sounds better and better every minute.

I like the sound of living on the government dole better. Why work? You'll get paid that much by Uncle Sam to do nothing, and get a free cell phone too.

You sound like a publisher. o_O

And what are the odds that it's a five-day per week job, or anything less than 60 hours per week? There's a lot of responsibilities listed there in the ad.

I would wager this job pays less than minimum wage when you figure in all the hours you'll work, and good luck getting a second job with all of the expectations and schedule swings.
