Fantasy Baseball 2020 Running Thread

This really is getting out of hand. I have Yordan Alvarez on that money team. I got all of two games out of him. He is having season-ending knee surgery to repair a torn patella tendon in his right knee. I also just had D.J. LeMahieu go on the IL with a thumb injury. We keep eight veterans in that league. Of my eight, four were hitters. Mancini is the fourth and he was diagnosed with cancer not long after my league drafted. (Again, obviously, his health is more important, but damn I've had weird/awful luck.)

Rodriguez and Stroman were supposed to be my fourth and fifth starters. Osuna was my No. 2 closer. Those were a huge part of my spending on pitching. Throw in stuff like losing Dozier for the first month and it's a real mess. I currently have eight players on the IL including Tyler Chatwood, who I picked up on waivers a day or two before he got hurt.

Don't even get me started on the Fantasy Addicts League. (Bichette, Yates, Rodriguez, Acuna.....)

I'm in the same boat (including Alvarez). I've got like six of my starters on the IL in my dynasty league. Not much better in my other keeper leagues. Fascinating how many are simply injured and not COVID related. Seems like the abbreviated Spring Training has had a big effect.

On another note, I got offered Aaron Nola ($27) and Trea Turner ($20) for Bo Bichette ($2) and Ian Happ ($2).

I don't mind giving up Happ (I think it's probably an opportunity to sell high on a waiver pickup), but I'm leery to give up Bichette. I'm thinking of countering for Fried ($15) and Turner. I do hate to give up young, cheap talent like Bichette, though.

I agree. That is part of it. You also have players who did have COVID and returned, only to suffer serious injuries.

I'm up to 10 players on the IL now in that league, though I may get Chatwood back Tuesday.

In a league that values starting pitching, Fried might make that deal worth it to me, particularly since I've lost Strasburg for the rest of the season. I haven't dug into Fried's underlying metrics yet, but he's been nasty through four starts this season.

I'm not a huge fan of Fried, but he is cheaper and Nola hasn't really progressed since 2018.

It isn't just the underlying metrics with Bichette. The talent was always there. He was an excellent prospect and it looks like he may stick at shortstop. The one thing that gives me hope long-term in Fantasy Addicts is having the Blue Jays' middle infield at pretty good values.

I can't find the other thread, so I just want to say thanks to whomever decided to randomly waive Blake Snell after two or three starts. Now another team gets him for a pick at the end of the draft. If you're not going to try, why have a team?

That was an accident. The owner contacted me immediately, and I put him back on the correct roster. Also, the player holds his draft value. Even if Snell had gone through waivers, he would have still cost the new team a high pick to keep him.

It was understandable. I would prefer that everybody would be careful about such things. It was very clear nobody would cut Snell in that situation, but a lesser player would leave me with the kind of judgement call I would not want to make.

An owner in my money league is trying to pry Josh Hader from me. I've got Hader for $18 next year, which is a bargain for arguably the top closer in the game. He offered me Urquidy ($3), but that's not even close to a decent value.

He's got Brandon Woodruff at $6, but I doubt he would take that even if I threw in a solid starter to take Woodruff's place.

He does have Dustin May ($7) and Nick Madrigal ($3) on the block. Does that sound like a fair price for Hader?
