Concerts thread: Best/Worst/Next/Last one you attended?

Years and years ago, when Pink Floyd "flirted" with the idea of having one last go around the globe while Rick Wright was still alive, I told my wife that no matter the cost, it was a must go. Miami/NYC/LA/Chicago…..no matter……I was going.
She was fine with it.
When I was a board op in high school, my pd bragged about seeing them at old Mile High in Denver. He's been to many many concerts and said that was at the top.
I'd also love to go see Dave Matthews and Mumford and Sons.

Just saw Frank Turner is coming here on a Tuesday in May, with Dave Hause as one of the supports. Definitely hitting that one up.

Buy tickets now. That tour is selling out fast. He is coming to Cleveland; tickets went on sale Friday (snagged mine) and are already sold out. 500-capacity venue.

Good looking out. Just grabbed one. Never been to Canal Club, but I've heard it's pretty small.

Not a huge name, but Mrs. Flip and I saw Ray Wiley Hubbard in Clifton, Texas, tonight, in a sold-out venue of about 350. He put on a really fun show. He's a great storyteller. And I learned that he wrote the song Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother, which was made famous by Jerry Jeff Walker.

Hellbent For Leather might by my favorite 5:00 Friday song.

The Hold Steady closed the Weekender at the legendary 100 Club on Oxford Street in London and played Separation Sunday from front to back to open things. Bloody heck. I'm kind of speechless about how this band continues to surprise me. Incredible set, just a brilliant weekend. Also lost the pub quiz in a tiebreaker, only a slight bummer. Was on drummer Bobby Drake's team. What a great time.

My wife was excited they were coming to Toronto in June until we saw they were playing Budweiser Stage, a 16,000-seat shed on the shores of Lake Ontario that is a hassle to get to and from and like your example, every time we have gone there we have vowed never to go back. I saw them back when they were a relevant act, selling records with videos on MTV and they played Massey Hall which would the perfect venue for them now., Tickets are larcenously priced ($70+ to sit on the lawn?) and I will not be surprised to see this among the shows Live Nation discounts in the spring.

Just to follow up... I got an email today offering two tickets for $40.

I looked up the seats that are still available at a few shows, and hoo boy did they fork up in booking this tour. Places will be maybe a third full.

So, I grew up on Garrison Keillor. My whole family is from Minnesota. My mom raised me in him, buying the 4-cassette box sets of his stuff. Tonight I saw his show live for the second time. A lifetime ago, while a college student at UNC, I treated my mom to a Prairie Home Companion show broadcast in Chapel Hill.Tickets were $20 and I paid. She passed away 21 years ago. How?

Tonight, at a sold out show at a regional theatre, I thought he was AWESOME, especially at 82. So much subtle subversion in his comedy narrative. The evangelicalism bits and "girl on the church bus" stuff. Really smart act.

This set was his life memoir. Really beautiful. Very glad to see that. Thank you to everyone involved bringing him to the Sandhills of NC.

This was a blast. It really felt like a wonderful career swan song. It was a very well-constructed set.

Really smart and well done. Terrific writing, through and through.

God, I love smart writing.

Last: Drive-By Truckers playing Southern Rock Opera all the way through in a small club. Had a great time minus the guy behind me who started booing, saying "cut the politics and just play music!" My man, you hearing any of these lyrics? A third of the songs are about George Freaking Wallace.

Best: probably Pearl Jam show in Moline where they played No Code front to back. I also went to last minute to check out the band Dawes at the Ryman Auditorium, a band I knew a little about but left impressed that night and have seen them 10+ times since.

Worst: nearly died in a tornado after a weather shortened Eric Clapton show. Also Had a fight with my date and then had person in our group get crossfaded and run away during a Pearl Jam/Tom Petty show. That was a terrible night.

Next: Swell Season is coming to my area this summer and so is Jason Isbell. I know those will be on my agenda.

Reactivated my account after a long, long time away. It's the music talk I missed the most.
