"I’ve been surprised by the intensity of the Meryl Streep loyalty."

Keanu Reeves at #4? They're being deliberately provocative.

All I did was read the headline on this thread, open it, and go from there.

I just got to this post. If I were drinking soda right now, it would have been all over my keyboard and screen...Just my immediate reaction.

It's funny - my initial reaction was that maybe the Streep oversight was justified because the bulk of her beloved work was all pre-2000.

I looked it up. since 2000 she's been nominated for ten acting Oscars (and won one).

I'm not one to put a ton of weight on awards.... but that's impressive.
I think a case can be made that Streep is the finest actor of her generation, male or female. She is really stunningly good.

I agree with this, although Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks are up there, too, for me.

Azrael-

I wonder what made him take Mohicans. He had leading-man looks, he could do all the accents. Just apparently resistant to superstardom.

Whatever it is, it makes him a heck of a lot more interesting to write about than Brad Pitt.

And for the record, I love Troy, I've seen it dozens of times and I have it right here in this room.

I regard it a sort of Fried Green Tomatoes for dudes, without the overacting.

Troy was awesome until the end. Maybe that is because of the casting of Orlando Bloom.

Is there a movie Orlando Bloom has made better?

In some ways he's the perfect Paris, though - young, dashing, dumb, horny, irresponsible, completely preoccupied with self, falls ass-backwards into a union with Helen of Troy.

Bloom was good in the Lord of the Rings franchise. Pretty good in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Suffers a little for being too handsome.

Agree on Paris. Troy isn't a great movie for lots of reasons. Luckily, Alexander, which came out at nearly the same time, was much worse. Laughably bad.

Eric Bana is swell as Hector; Brian Cox is miscast as Agamemnon; Peter O'Toole is much too old for Priam; and Brad Pitt is physically perfect for Achilles, but somehow never figures out how to play him. He needed better direction, I think. You can sense his unease.

As good as it gets in a sword-and-sandals film.

Before I fight someone in mortal combat, I like to shout their name 38 times outside the castle walls before doing so.

Have a good day, y'all.
