2025-26 College basketball coaching carousel

It's great that guys (and women) are getting new jobs, etc., probably making more money, but for about 320 men's teams and 330-40 women's teams they're just rearraigning desk chairs on the Titanic. They're not going to compete for the national title or even the Sweet 16 or the second round.

They're just trying to position themselves for their next job. Which is fine. No one's lifetime dream is to be the longtime head coach at Farleigh-Dickinson, Towson, Detroit Mercy or Central Washington.

I do enjoy seeing fan bases of teams that lost their coach complain and cry about loyalty knowing full well they stole the guy from some other place just for a bigger check. You want some sense of loyalty? Require your coach to get your logo tattooed on his ass before he signs the deal.

Or maybe his forehead.

Brett Bielema and his Iowa Hawkeye tattoo are just fine with that.

Again, even by the standards of college basketball coaches, Kevin Willard is a miserable brick.

His shirt is going to wear so thin so fast at cult-like Villanova.

Yep.

Can't believe the entitled bullshirt about the extra night in NYC for Christmas. I know the usual yucksters inside college basketball and probably a lot of Maryland fans huzzah'd his nonsense (ermergerd look how cheap Maryland is!), but most businesses are not going to give you an extra night in NYC "for Christmas" just because.

So I did a little digging. They beat Villanova in Brooklyn this season on Nov. 24 ahead of a home game three days later on Thanksgiving Eve.

The only other neutral site game in New York was in 2022, also at Barclays. The lost to Tennessee on Dec. 11 and again had a home game three days later, this time against UCLA. Good thing it wasn't yet a conference game because the Terps apparently pouted themselves into an 87-60 loss.

Their two games at Rutgers were on Jan. 11 and Feb. 25. There was no road trip to Jersey this season.

None of that sounds like Christmas to me. Something smells.

Be careful what you wish for, Len. The truest of Missouri's True Sons was an abject disaster coaching the Tigers.
