Export is the beer of my father and his father before. I still love it.

When I was in high school in Ontario, Canadian somehow overtook Ex as the flagship beer. Even at 16 I was brand loyal.

If I'm adding in some Clamato or tomato juice I go with something more like a High Life.

My old man and his brother were 50 men. I still am. First beer I ever got served in a bar was a 50.

Ex was a huge brand for Molson in the 70s and 80s as I recall, have no idea why Canadian took over, can't stand that stuff.

I guess Ex was like your father's Oldsmobile, and they marketed Canadian as the fun/youthful beer. Canadian was hard to find in Quebec until the late 80s.

Probably the same way Labatt viewed Blue and 50. I was always told Laurentide was really Canadian in another package. I can easily kill an hour watching old beer commercials from the 70s and 80s on YouTube.

Almost every 50 or Ex ad (as I recall) was a bunch of 40+ guys hanging out at a cabin, or restoring an old car, that sort of thing. Me and the boys and our 50. If you watched sports every second ad then was beer.

Blue is huge in WNY. I was always a Molson Golden fan myself, when we decided to drink spendy beer instead of Utica Club and Stroh's. Brunner's Tavern in Buffalo had a 50-cent Molson Golden night every Thursday.

Haven't had a Blue in three or four years, but always liked it. Don't know that I've ever had a Molson.

Sort of like peeing on an electric fence as a seven-year-old.

Man, I haven't thought of Molson Golden in years, it was a pretty popular beer up here for years then it just sort of disappeared. I know Blue is huge in WNY, I see lots of people drinking it whenever I have been at Sabres games. I drank it for many years up here before going back to 50 and Ex.

If I want 1, 2 or 3 then it's the good stuff. I also like to never drink two of the same in a row. That's to really notice what they are doing.

If I want to drink for 3, 4, 5 hours, then it's the cheap light stuff that won't slow me down.

In the opening scene of "The Graduate," Benjamin Braddock is drinking an Oly as he floats to the bottom of the pool.

Here's more than you will ever want to know about Oly. I wish them luck. It's neat that local brands like Schlitz, Blatz, National, Schaefer, etc., are being reintroduced in their hometowns. We drank a ton of Detroit-brewed Stroh's back in the day and a Maryland fraternity brother turned me on to National Boh in college.

"Cheap beer" is everything I drink now until I'm allowed to go back to Canada. Last time I was in Calgary, a six-pack of Deschutes IPA was $23. I am not paying $23 for a forking six pack. No way, no how. Not even in Canadian dollars.
