As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly — the 2024 Thanksgiving thread

I feel judged.

Anyway, the wife, 15-year-old daughter, brother, sister-in-law, twin 10-year-olds and I are sitting in LaGuardia headed home after five days in NYC. The Mrs. And I have been here several times. It was the first for the rest. We had an incredible time. All the touristy things are better when you're watching kids experience them.

Happy Thanksgiving to y'all. And if you're traveling, good luck and be safe.

(NYC SJ, next time I'm in town I'll holler.)

Now I wish I had booked earlier flights. I got into LaGuardia at around 1500 after spending Wednesday night with the family at our Thanksgiving gathering (not pushed by me ... their choice). Didn't book trip tickets until we had Thanksgiving plans firmed up. So spent time with family - most of us in the same neighborhood before flying to hang out with a friend for the first time in more than three years. Best of both worlds.

Well, ship. Video call is off. Stepmom's cancer took a turn and what was going to be 1-2 months of palliative care or hospice is now down to a few hours. And here I am, stuck on the other side of the world and looking into short-notice intercontinental flights again.

I'm sorry.

Peace and good karma to you, @TrooperBari. From personal experience, I know having a loved one in this situation on the holiday is a terrible, no-good, unfun deal.

Ms Sixtoe and I didn't have family plans, as everyone was scattered this year, so we dined at a local Indian restaurant. We imagined the tasty turkey kabobs, bhindi (okra), chana masala (peas) and other fare as a souped-up pilgrim feast. It was quite good. They had pumpkin pie, too, which was nice with a small serving of kheer.

It's not a holiday without a clogged toilet, right? *sigh*

"There's water flowing over the toilet we tried to unclog it but couldn't and now there's water flowing over in the floor and we put down towels and can't get it unclogged and …"

OK, I'll check.

"What causes this?"

Um, too much ship in there?"

"Well, it's a toilet, so …"
