How do you pick your prep Coach of the Year

You know, spirited, you should turn your keyboard to "mute, because I don't have anything intelligent to say." Didn't you read this part of the initial post? "I'm not picking who you pick necessarily. I'm more interested in any points of view or questions you may have that I didn't think of. For...

Nope none of this co-coach of the year crap. I'm going to pick one.

How do you pick your prep Coach of the Year

I'm about to pick our All-County volleyball team, and I'm curious what methods you guys use. I'll describe each coach's pros and cons and let me know who you'd pick. I'm not picking who you pick necessarily. I'm more interested in any points of view or questions you may have that I didn't think...

    Cross Country feature

I agree with the others that you missed the real story. Also, you overplayed her skill level by saying she's super fast. 20:33 for 5,000 meters is good for some girls, but it's not impressive. Wait until you write about a girl who runs 5 kilometers in less than 18 minutes to really lay on the...

    Are newspapers really becomong obsolete?

Good point. I feel like a bit of a moron now.

    Volleyball Gamer

You don't need to say "in Seacaucus" because your dateline tells the reader the match was played there. "Lennon led the Patriots' charge." The other words are extraneous. The sentence is passive. Keeping track of service points often is overrated in volleyball. A lot of the times it's used by...

    Are newspapers really becomong obsolete?

As I was driving to my Friday night football coverage two weeks ago, I saw the sign in front of the home school. It announced a PTO meeting on the top two lines. The bottom line read: "Go Party Crashers!" Now the background. Several weeks back I covered this team when it pulled off what many...

Yes, Geno, it's always about you.

I tried a SportsJournalists.com search for Geno Auriemma and couldn't find the thread. Anybody got any tips on how I can find it? Yes, I know this is borderline obsessive. I'm dealing with it.

Yes, Geno, it's always about you.

Does anybody know where I can find a link of Geno going off on a student reporter after UConn lost for the first time in 70-some games? Even if it'st just the text. I liked that more than the Mike Gundy outburst.

    Part-time in Jackson, Michigan

If the part-time pay at the Citizen-Patriot is the same as it was at the Booth/Newhouse paper I worked for, it's a sight to behold. I made more working part-time (not my part-time hours equated to regular full-time hours) than I do now at a full-time job in a place that has a lower cost of living.

By the way, I think it's a pretty cool touch that USA has on-court interviews that even the on-site can hear after each match.

So this really is still going on? Isn't it 1:15 a.m. in New York? What's the Open's latest start time on any given day?

    TGIF-Prep Football Thread

My first Friday sucked, too. I covered a 5 p.m. game at an NFL stadium with wireless Internet built in. I was done by 9 p.m. The highlight was a 5-foot-3, 130-pound senior RB who had 186 yards on 10 carries. He got 82 and the winning TD on a play in which he ran 1 1/2 times across the width of...

Official Lloyd Carr Death Watch Thread

Been away for awhile and don't want to read through all 10 pages of this thread, so I'm sorry if this has been brought up already. I saw this posted somewhere. "...a provision in (Urban) Meyer's contract at Utah allows him to leave for three schools -- Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan --...

What is this f-ing ESPN crap? What is the most "now" tournament?

Re: What is this f-ing ESPN crap? Who is the most "now" tournament? Can you even fathom being the guy(s)/gal(s) who were responsible for the seeding? Try to wrap your head around that.
