If you were starting college now, what would you major in?

Same thing I started in: Electrical Engineering. Started off in it at Florida, went through two years and then switched to journalism. Don't really regret it but wouldn't mind having both degrees.

What schools did you reject, or who rejected you?

Applied at the following: Florida LSU South Carolina Alabama Auburn Miami Tulane Texas Arizona State Oklahoma Got into all and went to Florida. Wish I had applied to a few Ivys, but it would have been just to say I did it and got in.

    New SEC football scheduling format

To me, the bigger issue here that isn't being talked about is the game inventory for TV/fans. Throw the competitive advantage thing between 8 or 9 games out the window. No Florida fans want to watch games against Idaho, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Kentucky. More and more people are giving up...

    College football Week 5 thread

    * Like LSU to win and cover at Georgia. * Think Florida wins but Kentucky covers (13) against Florida. UF 0-3 ATS so far, just lost starting QB, best defensive player. * Like Ole Miss to cover against Alabama. Alabama's defense is not a typical Nick Saban unit.

Is Facebook doomed? (Alternatively: Is social networking, in general, doomed?)

The main thing that has driven me (and I say driven but it's more drifted) from Facebook is the abundance of updates I simply don't care about. It's why Twitter is far and away my favorite social network. I choose what I want to follow and it's all fed to me nicely and neatly with no clutter. I...

The New Age of Twitter Journalism

If, say, 10 percent of your online traffic comes from Twitter ... why would you not continue to expand or at least maintain your Twitter presence? It's hard to quantify the value of a single tweet in terms of ROI, but Twitter shouldn't be looked at from a micro perspective, IMO. It's a macro...

    AP's Twitter account hacked

Anyone else retweet that? I feel like an idiot, but I didn't even think twice about the AP account potentially being hacked. Lesson learned, I guess.

    On a winning streak

First three baseball games I covered this year went to extra innings. But that streak ended last night ... not before everyone in the press box almost murdered me when home team tied it on a fluke dropped catch by the shortstop in the bottom of the eighth. Luckily away team scored in the top of...

Ex-LAPD cop goes to war against colleagues

Wait, wait, wait. Local sheriff's departments have their own snipers?

Biggest "beat 'em up" CFB cupcake payouts?

Florida's situation's also a little different because it plays one of its games in Jacksonville every year, so a home-and-home means giving up a seventh home game. The Gators will only have six games in Gainesville in 2013 because of their return end of a home-and-home with Miami, but that's...

Multiple deaths, including children, at Connecticut school shooting

I'm not educated enough on the topic to debate gun control legislation, but I did want to clarify that. A lot of what I've seen debated has been along the lines of "people shouldn't be allowed to legally own assault rifles." To whoever asked does it matter what guns this killer used today? No...

Multiple deaths, including children, at Connecticut school shooting

I've read through a lot of discussion about today's tragedy both here and other places, but I haven't actually read a whole lot of hard news coverage on it. I watched CNN/Fox/MSNBC throughout the day, flipping back and forth. Has anyone confirmed the shooter actually used an assault rifle in...

Having zero luck finding that tweet.

Biggest "beat 'em up" CFB cupcake payouts?

Saw a tweet from an SEC writer earlier today that there was a 2002 game that someone turned from a road game into a home game for $2.something million. Can't remember which SEC school it was.
