We have confirmation from the Los Angeles Police Department the ex-cop from LA was shot and killed by a local sheriff's department sniper.

Wait, wait, wait. Local sheriff's departments have their own snipers?

If they have a SWAT team (and most do), then they have a designated marksman who plays a sniper role.

San Bernardino county has a population greater than 14 states.. They probably have snipers.

I just read something (and now I cannot recall where) that talked about the increase in police militarization since 9/11. Something like 90 percent of cities with populations 50,000+ have at least one SWAT team.

Apparently not so fast. Just saw this on CNN as well

LAPD denies news reports that a body has been recovered at Big Bear. CNN hastily removes "fugitive ex cop found dead" on screen.

But the Riverside police chief said it was likely him.

Odd.
