President Trump 2.0: The NEW one and only politics thread

Of course, the shutdown of USAid was unconstitutional. That just doesn't matter to our President.

MSN

A federal judge on Tuesday blocked Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency from firing any more USAID employees or terminating USAID contracts, writing that efforts to speedily shut down the aid organization were likely unconstitutional.

The Trump administration's shutdown efforts "likely violated the United States Constitution in multiple ways," wrote Judge Theodore D. Chuang.

Chuang wrote that the accelerated process "deprived the public's elected representatives in Congress of their constitutional authority to decide whether, when, and how to close down an agency created by Congress."

Since President Donald Trump took office and established DOGE on Jan. 20, almost all of USAID's workers have been placed on administrative leave and up to 50% of its employees have been terminated, according to Chuang's ruling.

This is an opinion piece, but it rings true -- an article about the lying and dishonesty that pervades and prevails among the entire Trump administration.

MSN

Just two months into Donald Trump's second term, we have reached a milestone in US politics: For the first time in US history, we must assume that nothing that comes out of the mouths of anybody associated with this administration is true*.

Nothing!

It might not be an outright lie in every case. Sometimes, it could just be spin or deception. But it's rarely going to be the unvarnished truth...

When it comes to the president, dishonesty is obviously nothing new. He is the most prolific liar in the history of politics. By now, he has probably lied more to the American people than all other presidents combined.

And, of course, there were plenty of officials in his first administration who lied. However, there were also still a lot of people left whom you could trust to be at least reasonably truthful.

That is no longer the case.

This time around, Trump specifically chose people for all key positions who are loyal to him, and you can't be loyal to Trump while also speaking the truth...

This strongly worded opinion piece is worth reading, about Trump's deportation moves, overreaching and the blatant ignorance of court orders.

"Whenever law ends, tyranny begins." —John Locke

When a president declares an "invasion" to justify shredding the Constitution, he's not defending the nation—he's declaring war on democracy itself.

The United States of America has long been defined by its commitment to the rule of law. For over 240 years, this nation has stood as a beacon of justice, due process, and constitutional order. Yet today, we are witnessing a grotesque and unprecedented assault on those very principles.

Donald Trump, in his endless pursuit of authoritarian control, is now weaponizing a wartime-only power—the Alien Enemies Act—to circumvent legal protections, deport individuals without any due process, and imprison people indefinitely with no evidence.

This is an atrocity, an outright attack on the very foundation of our democracy, and it must be met with fierce resistance from every true patriot.

The Alien Enemies Act, a relic from the 18th century, was intended for use during actual wartime to address foreign threats. It was never meant to be a political cudgel for a desperate demagogue who seeks to inflame his base with fear and xenophobia.

Trump and his cronies, however, have now declared that migrants crossing the southern border constitute an "invasion," an absurd and legally indefensible claim.

Also, I admire Karoline Leavitt's inadvertent devotion to telling the truth:

During Monday's White House press briefing, Leavitt made a whoopsie by very confidently declaring that President Donald Trump's Department of Justice will focus on "fighting law and order" rather than "fighting for law and order."
