“Spider-Man: No Way Home” spoilers

Heard a stat that blew my mind - nine out of every 10 movie tickets sold this weekend were for Spiderman. I have to think that is a win for the theater industry. People venturing back out for this one will likely/hopefully feel more comfortable to visit more regularly now - COVID willing.

One moment I enjoyed was when Peter Parker went back to school after everyone knew his identity. When he walked down the hallway, everyone had a smartphone out to record or take a picture of him. Contrast that with the time in Spider-Man 2 when Spidey saved the subway car without his mask on and everyone refused to take his picture.

I'm still hesitant to go to a big enclosed place like that, even though all the adult-ish folks in my house are vaxed and boosted, and the 7-year-old has had her first shot.

We have a mask mandate here so both shows I went to were mostly masked. Better yesterday when it was more kids. I wore a mask as long as I wasn't stuffing my face with popcorn.

I've done enough events now that I am a little more comfortable with being out, but it definitely was a process at first. Been to three other movies since the summer and the first was Black Widow and it was pretty full and I didn't have a mask then (no mandate at that time) and it did feel weird, so I understand the hesitation. With the vax and boosted and wearing a mask I don't think you'd have a ton to worry about. If taking the kid I may wait until fully vaccinated, and the crowd could be smaller then too.

It was a little weird being in a crowded theater, though my wife, daughter, and I are all vaxxed and boosted. If you are comfortable, I recommend seeing it sooner rather than later. The crowd reactions are part of the fun.

Initial thoughts…

Loved it.
Loved the CGI.
Loved the handling and the interactions between the Spidermen.
Didn't see Aunt May coming.
Favorite part was Garfield catching MJ.
Daughter was bummed for lack of Venom.
Daredevil was great and too quick. I guess he isn't a high enough pay grade to take these villains on.
Wait, no PP, no more Daredevil connection, but he does exist, I guess.
Hawkeye must be two months after NWH - Halloween to Christmas.

That's all I can think of now.

I doubt we have seen the last of them unless Zendaya doesn't want to do these anymore.

My 9-year-old said it's the best movie he's ever seen. I can't go that far, but I can agree it is the best Spider Man film and among the best MCU films (I'd still put Civil War and Infinity War ahead of it. End Game is on par with it).

The three Spider Men really worked well together and gave some of the best performances in MCU history. They all had their own moments of humor, sadness and humanity. Their chemistry was great.

I agree with whomever upthread said they actually managed to "fix" some mistakes of the previous films. Electro looked great and was a far better villain this time around. They smashed that ridiculous Goblin mask and let Dafoe's face do the work (my kid was totally creeped out by him, it was great).

May's death was really well done and I loved the moment later when the three Peter's realized "With great power, comes great responsibility" transcends their own experiences and binds them all.

I loved Daredevil's intro to the MCU, although they did gloss over Parker's legal woes pretty badly. Not that I wanted a courtroom drama, but wow, they didn't even try to give it a logical explanation.

It was our first theater visit since The Addams Family in 2019. Holy heck, it felt good to be back.

It is funny how many rumors about this movie turned out to be true. Charlie Cox returns, but we only see him as Matt Murdock, not as Daredevil. The return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Even Garfield's Spider-Man saving MJ was telegraphed. My daughter and I thought it would happen that way going in, and I was 100 percent certain of it after the way he talked about his failure to save Gwen. That said, every one of those moments worked. The execution was that good.

Dafoe and Molina were both fantastic. Really, all of the villains were good. The interactions among them were fun. The movie seemed to be at its best with the little character moments. One I hadn't heard mentioned yet was Dr. Strange arguing with Peter against the plan at the end, even seeming to choke up a little as he included himself among the people who care about Peter.

I guess my only gripe is we are seeing all these chess pieces starting to litter the board, but I'm having trouble seeing the king or where everything is moving.

We got Kang, but maybe by the first week of July we see where everyone is headed?

I did a pretty good job of avoiding spoilers, so even though I knew Charlie Cox was going to return to the MCU, I had no idea he was in this film. It was fun to see him and the theater reaction was fun.

I knew Foxx, Molina, Dafoe, Garfield and Maguire were all returning in this, but they were all quite a bit larger roles than I expected. Someone upthread mentioned fan service and I guess I kind of expected those characters to have that kind of role. Like maybe the Spider Men would all point at each other and then disappear back to their universes.

They really did a good job incorporating them into the MCU, giving us the sense that a lot has transpired in their lives/universes since we last saw them on screen (unlike the villains, who had all died in their respective films).

One thing I'm wondering … they brought together FIVE of the Sinister SIX for the three Spider Men to fight. Vulture had previously been introduced. Why not bring him into the big battle? I'm wondering why they didn't assemble all six?
