Mariano Rivera is your All-Star Game MVP, after throwing 15 pitches and protecting a 3-run lead. #thistimeitcounts

Who else would be the MVP?

Normally I'm not a big fan of Lifetime Achievement Awards, but in this event and with the numbers.... not many other candidates and I agree with this completely.

And great job by Erin Andrews to get the heck out of the way!
Seriously? Big time save right there.

The Giants so terribly hated having their Double A team in Connecticut that they made a habit of moving guys directly from high-A San Jose to Triple A Fresno. I believe both Posey and Lincecum skipped Double A entirely.

The Giants' Double-A affiliate is in Richmond. But you're right, their Double-A roster seems stocked with career minor-leaguers, judging by their ages. The only two hotshots I see on it are Joe Panik and Edwin Escobar. I imagine Kyle Crick will go to Richmond next year; he's their No. 1 prospect but is only 20.

It was Connecticut until after the 2009 season. They actually sought out Richmond (go Flying Squirrels!) because they hated the weather and ballpark in CT and are more amenable to sending guys through Double A now.

Career minor leayuers could be said about a lot of the Giants' farmhands.

That is correct. Neither one played in Double-A.

A lot of West Coast teams have their top pitching prospects skip High-A or Triple-A so they don't have to have their confidence shattered in the hitter-happy California League or PCL.

It does seem a bit odd that of the three leagues in High-A, which is probably a key point in determining whether a guy is going to keep rising or is more likely to stall out, one is extremely hitter-friendly and another is extremely pitcher-friendly. But I guess if you're going to have a spring-training facility, you almost might as well stick an FSL team in it.

Since teams now have a more-or-less permanent presence at their spring training sites for rehab, etc. having a low minor league team there makes sense.
