2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee screechfest

Is Hootie and the Blowfish in? They should be.

"Let Her Cry" is one of the greatest rock songs of all time and one of the greatest country songs of all time. Discuss.

Not being snarky, but as a 59-year-old, I know nothing of the Dave Matthews Band other than having heard the name and knowing their bus driver dumped their septic tank into a river.

Do they have hit songs (I can't name one) or is a cult following like the Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffett?

They are a huge touring machine. Pollstar listed them as the biggest touring act of the 2000s. And they are still popular enough to get a Sirius/XM channel dedicated to their music every summer. A few Top 20 hits, but they aren't built for radio-friendly singles.

Also, too, Buffett should be in the HoF as well - simply for his endless tours that continue to sellout venues.

And also Widespread Panic!

/only half joking. forking love them

My guess for the five that make it:

Dave Matthews Band
Doobie Brothers
Judas Priest
Soundgarden
Whitney Houston

Another year goes by without the following artists in.

Warren Zevon
Rage Against The Machine
Diana Ross
Joe Cocker
Steve Winwood---(How in the blue heck has Traffic been in for 15 years, but Winwood isn't?)
Bad Company
Merle Haggard
Willie Nelson

Utter Rubbish.

Didn't realize Bad Company isn't in--that's appalling.

  • Pat Benatar - NO
  • Dave Matthews Band - Yes
  • Depeche Mode - Yes
  • The Doobie Brothers - Yes (Let the debate of Michael McDonald or Tom Johnston rage on ... )
  • Whitney Houston - Yes (Gotta agree with the Janet Jackson analogy ... to leave Whitney out now, given that fact, is insane)
  • Judas Priest - Yes
  • Kraftwerk - No
  • MC5 - No
  • Motörhead - Yes
  • Nine Inch Nails - Yes (Can't say I'm a big fan, but when someone in the string section of an orchestra I liked says it's his favorite band ... )
  • The Notorious B.I.G. - No (Still drafting off Herb Alpert's heat ... )
  • Rufus featuring Chaka Khan - No
  • Todd Rundgren - No
  • Soundgarden - No
  • T.Rex - No
  • Thin Lizzy - Yes

*Keep in mind that what Jann Wenner wants and what actually makes some sense could be in opposite corners of the universe.

Well, the road to the hall runs through Wenner and Wenner once fired a writer who have bootie a bad review...

My criteria would be: Do they still play your music, did you innovate to the point that your sound can still be heard, if you zapped back to your era, how long would it take to hear one of your songs. How deep was your cultural significance.

I mean shoot Pat Benatar went to Ridgemont High. She's in.

Nice to see Judas Priest and Motorhead get recognized but no Iron Maiden (despite being more deserving than either of the other two)?

There were three girls at Ridgemont High who looked like Pat Benatar.
