2025 MLB running thread

Dude. I grasp the point just fine, but you aren't seeing mine. I get what you are saying, but fans tend to be overly critical of their team's closer because when they do fail, it stands out.

You don't need to be a Brewers fan or a Brewer to know he is reliant on his change-up.

My question still stands. Which relief pitchers have been better than Williams over the last four or five years?

Why use my post to make that point when Williams ... doesn't play for the team I root for anymore.

So while your overall point has merit, it makes zero sense for you to use my post to illustrate it.

I was hoping Williams would fail as a closer for the New York Yankees.

I am convinced that every fanbase complains about its teams closer no matter how well he does the job.
I'd love to travel back in time and see if my recollection that Yankees fans never complained about Mariano Rivera matches up to the long-ago reality. Maybe he got booed after blowing the save against the Red Sox in early 2005 (with 2004 still fresh in everyone's mind), but I can't remember anything else like that happening

The one and only time I saw Mariano Rivera pitch he blew a save against a dog-ass Royals team.

It was hot as fork at old Yankee Stadium, over 100 degrees, so if anyone was annoyed, it was because they had to sit through another half-inning of baseball in the oven.

There was some consternation about him when he first became closer in '97. But 1998-2000 essentially made him bulletproof in NY.

Even 2001 was chalked up as a lucky break for the Diamondbacks and post-9/11 New York was just happy for some distraction. 2004 against the Red Sox was a gack job by the entire team, so Mo only got a little blame, and dominated the next year as well.

Saw him twice. Once in a non-save situation against the Royals and once in a save situation against the Rockies. Both were uneventful.

It makes perfect sense. Your perception of Williams was created while he was with the Brewers. Your desire to see him fail now only adds a layer of bias. It's the same reason I never bet on games involving the Steelers. I know it is far too likely that they are either significantly better or worse than I think due to my investment.

I was thinking of Rivera during the discussion. I wouldn't be surprised if he were the lone exception.

The Rangers shirt the bed twice. One their own fault, and the other not.

Yesterday, their ballyhooed new bullpen gave up a 3-run Jimmy Jack to the Bosox in the ninth. But the most grievous grievance happened well in advance, when MLB scheduled Texas to host Boston for the season opener.

MLB screwed Texas out of another opportunity later in the season for another full house. You know Opening Day will be sold out, and any game with the Red Sox or Yankees coming to town will be sold out too. So Boston playing in Arlington on Opening Day was a "double date" that won't be made up.
