2025 MLB running thread

But don't forget about the four walks.
Seriously, some dude plucked randomly off a college roster could probably strike out fewer than 15 times in 23 plate appearances.
The four walks make it worse, because they indicate Devers is still seeing pitches pretty well, he's just missing the ones INSIDE the strike zone.

I had forgotten this trade was made on April Fool's Day. Pirates fans were furious because Tony Pena was their best player, and they didn't know much about any of the players they got in return. Of course, they easily got the best of the trade.

Mariners finish tonight with:

Tigers actually look pretty decent when they're not playing a full-strength Dodgers team at Chavez Ravine.

The savagery of Syd Thift isn't discussed nearly enough. My Mom took me to the home opener that year, which was like three days after the trade, and Pena got a standing ovation for every at bat.

The Mariners have eight regulars in tonight's lineup against the Tigers. After the 8th inning, they are hitting:
.208
.211
.105
.167
.182
.100
.067
.067

Unwatchable.
Get ready for the early season weather and tough stadium to hit in excuses.

Although those factors don't seem to bother the Tigers or other visiting teams.

The Pirates have had two brief runs of being good since they won the World Series in 1979. Thrift was the primary reason for the first one, though it certainly helped to have Barry Bonds fall to them in the 1985 draft. He also stole Doug Drabek from the Yankees in another trade.

Most of the home Cardinals game i see on TV are national broadcasts so they're usually against good teams so I've never seen either Busch Stadium look as empty as it is now for the getaway game against the Angels.

That was back when Steinbrenner would trade any young pitcher of promise for a veteran in an effort to win the back page of the tabloids from the Mets.

Al Leiter (albeit a late bloomer). Gone for Jesse Barfield.

Bob Tewksbury: George to Lou: "I just won you the pennant. We just got Steve Trout."

Brian Fisher also was a pretty good reliever for a few years and while Rhoden had a good first year and .500 second year for the Yankees, he obviously wasn't Drabek.

When the deal was first reported, prospect Logan Easley was supposed to be the key piece. So much for that idea. lol
