2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class

When When I watched Phillip Rivers it always seemed to me he played well and compiled excellent stats. But at the end of the game something would go awry and the Chargers would somehow snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. He was a better version of Kirk Cousins.

Rivers is ninth all-time in regular-season QB wins with 134

Only 20 quarterbacks have won at least 100 games. 10 are Hall of Famers. 4 will be -- Brady, Brees, Big Ben, Rodgers all above Rivers. The guys not in the Hall below Rivers with at least 100 wins are Matt Ryan, Wilson, Eli, Stafford and Flacco

The only thing Rivers is missing is a Super Bowl appearance/title. He's essentially Matt Stafford from a better team starting point, except he didn't have that one magical year

He made the playoffs seven times. His losses: Brady, Brady, Big Ben, MARK SANCHEZ, Peyton, Brady, Josh Allen. Five of the losses are by nine or less, three are by a field goal

One of the Patriots losses was a week after knee surgery and without Tomlinson, too

I don't think Super Bowl appearances are the end-all, be-all. But man, only one conference championship game in 17 seasons and a lot of missed playoffs during his career prime. That's a rough look. I have grace for great players on rotten teams but quarterback is a little different. There needs to be a couple of moments where you carry a team further than expected given the talent on hand if you want to be considered elite.

At the same time, supporting casts and organizations matter. Is it on Philip Rivers that Nate Kaeding had the worst day of his life, that Marlon McCree couldn't protect the football after what should have been a nearly-game-sealing interception, and that the organization itself was a top-down fountain of dysfunction?

There was a reason why Archie Manning wanted Eli to have no part of the San Diego Chargers.

Their tape was closer than I expected.

They forgot credible rape charges and dramatic self-inflicted motorcycle injuries, categories which the drama queen serial sexual assaulter wins going away, and children sired, which a category which Rivers wins going away (and one in which Rivers is probably still compiling).

Moon had zero in 17 years, and typically had great games in the post season. Of course, Moon did have Grey Cup titles before that.

My Gen X bias may be showing because I'm going to say Moon was hands down better than Rivers, but that stats (even when trying to factor in across eras) may not show it.
