A New Beer Thread

After I pop this kid out I'm going to have some of the Sweetwater brews shipped to me in Kentucky.

I'm sort of going through a beer renaissance right now. It's been very pleasing. I can't believe I ever put Bud forking Light to my lips.

Amen. I refuse to buy marco...they make enough money. I always ask for the local brewry on tap...if they don't have it...I go with Sam Adams or Sierra Nevada.

Those are my go-tos as well if I'm in a bar that doesn't serve better beer. I will admit that I'm a Miller Lite guy when I'm pinching pennies, but always prefer Anchor Steam or Sierra Nevada if I can afford it. Little shop on my way home sells Bell's Two-Hearted (among other very good beers), so I might grab a sixer of that on my way home tonight.

Hate to burst your bubble, but what you have there is Finland's Budweiser/Bud Light.

It doesn't taste like our light pisswater. Not even close.

You get to a certain age and stage of maturity as a beer drinker and you realize you're doing yourself a disservice by /not/ consuming good beer. You're sucking down several times more beer presumably to save on calories. It certainly isn't to please the palate.

I can respect that. I am just finding myself wanting a little more bang for my buck, in more ways than one.

If you drink three or four La Fin du Mondes -- 9 percent ABV -- you're right at the happy place Tom Wolfe was talking about on the graph of drunkenness. No need to pound anything by that point.

I haven't tried this one, but that's how I feel about Stella.

People here act like their sophisticated because they're paying more for a Belgian import. Yet, in Europe, it's a cheap beer aimed at the masses.

It's my least favorite Belgian beer.

I like Stella, but I pretty much only get it if the rest of the draft choices are Bud, Bud Light and/or some dark beer I can't drink.

Stella's another great example. I almost exclusively drink American beer. Even the really good European beers need to be exported across the Atlantic, so they're not as fresh as craft beer, and they're more expensive.

Young's Double Chocolate Stout is excellent, but it's not worth the extra $2 a bottle compared to Lancaster Milk Stout.

I don't know any beer snobs who brag about drinking Stella.

The craft beer crowd will turn up their nose at anything, but there's a difference between choosing to drink Stella and choosing to drink Bud Light.

You're right. YankeeFan (I think I can speak for him on this one) and I were taking issue with people who believe they're aficionados because they've moved on from BMC pish water.

If you've only got Coors Light, I'm not drinking beer. If you've only got Stella, I'll deal.

Heineken and Corona are no-goes on principle. Stella (or Guinness, which I lump in with Stella as widely available, popular imports that don't taste like crap but aren't particularly good) destroys them, and the price is the same.
