A New Beer Thread

If a bar doesn't have something I haven't had before (always the first choice) I'll go with a Stone Arrogant biscuit, Rogue Dead Guy, Sam Adams and a Deschutes Black Butte Porter.
Oh and Happy Craft Beer Month Oregon!
Personal faves: IPA-Bridgeport; Hefe-Widmer; Porter-Deschutes; Amber (ish)-Dead Guy; Red-Ninkasi Double Red - Specialty- Full Sail Black Gold Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout; Winter-Deschutes Jubelale.

All I have to contribute is Tricerahops (Ninkasi double IPA). Absolutely love that stuff.

Finally cracked open the bottle of Founders KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) I bought a few months ago. Was waiting for the right time to have it, where I could share its goodness with a fellow beer snob. Man, that stuff is good. Wish I could get my hands on the Canadian Breakfast Stout.

Yes, the KBS is phenomenal. You won't be getting your hands on the CBS, of course, unless you find a bar that has it on tap ... provided they continue not bottling it. There is some talk that they may begin bottling and having a limited distribution within the next year or two, but we'll see. I've had the CBS twice at the Brick Store Pub in Decatur, Ga., and it's beyond belief. I've got 6 more KBS bottles in the fridge that are awaiting the right moment.

Had an awesome beer last weekend ... the Firestone Walker Double Jack. It's an IPA that's just remarkably smooth and tasty. Loved it. Also had the Ola Dubh Special Reserve 40. Amazing beer. Had the thickest head I've ever seen on a beer. It was basically like a little loaf of bread was floating on the beer. The head was a light brown and just sat there. Didn't go down for 20 minutes. The beer was strong, but I can handle strong. Definitely one of the best beers I've had.

Oh, I know all about how rare the CBS is and that it's only on draft. Twice in the past five months I missed out on it by minutes at bars not terribly far from me.

Had the Bell's Two-Hearted at a random beer garden in the D.C. U Street Corridor area on Friday night. Very, very good. Also had an Avery's Ellie's Brown Ale, which I thought was excellent.

Just moved to Michigan for a spell. Tried Bell's Two-Hearted IPA as soon as I could because of recommendations on this thread. My favorite (available) IPA remains Dogfish Head 90-minute, but this is a pretty close no. 2.

Had Dogfish Head's Hellhound a few weeks ago. It is a surprisingly great palate cleanser, along with being delicious, subtle and downright high-ABV. It's a lovely take on an imperial IPA, and the hops aren't the star. Nor is the lemon. It's the "Glengarry Glenn Ross" of beers. Everything works together, everything has a big moment and nothing steals the show.

Just discovered this dark ale on one of our road trips. Great dark beer with no additives

Neustadt is a small village about two hours from Toronto and the brewery first started in 1859. Some guy resurrected it in the original building about 10 years ago. Great place

Here's the building

And about 100 metres away is the original mill which has been turned into a giant antique store

I had some Thunderhead Stout once, and it was incredibly good. Made in Portland, Oregon, I think. Anyone out that way know if it's still around? Hard to find east of the Rockies.

Just cracked a Monk's Blood from 21st Ammend. Brewers. 8.4%, not bad. Good flavor for a Belgian-styled dark ale...

Shared a pitcher of New Glarus Moon Man with a friend last week. Great summer beer. Tons of flavor.

Michigan Brewer's Guild Summer Festival this weekend, next weekend a run to Grand Rapids, then off to Denver for ten days via St. Louis and KC. Visits to Fort Collins/Loveland/Longmont/Boulder while in Colorado (:drubk:) then to the Twin Cities (hellooooooo Surly) and finally Madison for Great Taste of the Midwest.

Gonna be a nice few weeks of great brews!

Just sipped a New Holland Golden Cap saison ale. Once I let it warm up to 60, it was all right. I love getting those good peppery notes in a saison. Not going to go out of my way to find it again, but it sure wasn't a waste of my time.

Oh, and five weeks into a Detroit stop, and I've fallen in love with Two-Hearted IPA. I want to give it a Colorado State-themed proposal.
