Ann Telnaes, WaPo editorial cartoonist, quits after censorship

She's 63. I figured she was either ready to retire and go out in a blaze of glory or was fresh out of college and figured she could do whatever she wanted.

I wonder how much money Telnes thinks she l0st by resigning. When Telnes won the Pulitzer Prize back in 2001 she was working for Tribune Media Services. I am pretty sure while she was syndicated but not working at the Tribune. I think the Washington Post was the first paper she actually worked for.

While the syndication market is not what it once was I wonder if she thinks she can make enough of syndication to recover some of her lost income. I acknowledge in today's economic environment she may be delusional,

Are you serious, and who cares? Visual artists have many avenues for their talents if newspaperin' don't work out.

She'll do fine. Money hardly ever is the top priority for true, creative talent. And she probably can retire now anyway.

I believe in the watchdog role, too. Woulda liked some watchdoggin' in, say, 2023, related to Biden's competence, so there could have been a real primary.

Sadly, the watchdog turned into the equivalent of the recruiting site reporters who, the day the coach is fired, let their readers know they aren't remotely surprised based on the stuff they knew but never reported.

Seriously: It's probably time for political reporters to be apolitical. To not vote. To basically vow to be equal-opportunity antagonists. You just can't call what happened in 2022, 2023 and early 2024 watchdog work. George Clooney was more incisive.

Nice thought about not voting. Unfortunately, Trump is going to scare more than a few into Zuckerberg/Bezos territory.
