Due to building rules, the setup we've had for 17 years with our bedroom air conditioner is no longer going to be allowed. Our bedroom reaches sun temperatures in the summer, and even in the winter we occasionally have our AC on because when the heat to the building pipes in it becomes nearly unbearable.
So...we need an AC. And seems like our only option now is a portable one, with the hose going to the window.
Has anyone used one or have any recommendations on specific brands? Or any advice about using one or what to expect? Is installation of the hose a pain or fairly easy? Do you have to drain anything? Everything I read says they're loud. In NYC I barely notice the train and car alarms anymore and our window unit wasn't the quietest so I don't think that will be a worry. The main thing is do the darn things actually cool down the room? Our bedroom is pretty good size, very big for NYC and good-sized for anywhere else. The window unit did a great job of cooling it down, hoping the portable comes somewhere close.
This Wirecutter piece had a lot of good stuff but if anyone has any experience with them, would love to hear it.
