I'm tellin' ya, somebody somewhere, some day, is going to grab a gun...

Will there be anyone at the office left to shoot? Or to cover it?

This sucks.
I'm a big fan of the Startlegram, and I've known some people who've gone through there and are still there.
That said -- I'm not in shock.
Gary "27.5 cents is more than enough for mileage in 2007" Wortel recently took over as publisher there. Cuts often follow a publisher move.

Mizzougrad's three years prediction sounds a bit optimistic.

Unfortunately, it probably is... I talked to somebody recently who said mass layoffs are coming in the next couple months because papers know there is often less work to do in the summer months... He said the only papers that won't be effected are ones who are already dramatically understaffed and the people working for the big chains (Gannett, Tribune, Media General) are particularly forked...

Apparently a lot of places are going to be doing what Tampa did in the next few months...

Fun times...
