You got beat up on Twitter after he responded to youAgreed on all points. Had this been the first time, or even second, Bomani turned the issue of race into an attention grab, it'd be different. But the guy could find racism in just about anything. Great points on Trotter or Burwell above.
What makes it a stunt is that it was a stunt. It's just a nice, easy way for a guy whose commentary always turns toward race to inject himself into the conversation by making a dig at white people. If this were Sherman Alexie or some other Native American, I'd look at it differently. But it's knowing his track record on such things -- especially his soft peddling of how much of a punk Cam Newton was after the SB and his ongoing hate of Peyton Manning -- that colors my view of anything Bomani does.
So this is just personal distaste for a guy who often talks about something that makes you uncomfortable even though (at least one of) you agree(s) with him on the issue at hand?Agreed on all points. Wasn't the whole point of this was to make white people understand how stupid and offensive this is to Native Americans? If you offended, congratulations, that's the point. lol If you don't like offensive "white" images imagine how the rest of us feel? As a black woman, I remember Sambo. If you don't know who Sambo is, look it up. But some of you are in your feelings because a black man had the nerve to point out racism in this country. How dare he. Doesn't he know his place?
They were also the first team to hire an African-American manager (Frank Robinson). Still doesn't excuse their blatantly racist team name or mascot. You think Bomani's aware that the Indians were the first AL team to break the major league color barrier (Larry Doby)?
