Sorry if this has been started already, and that it's like, three days late.
Which cheesy, stupid, cliche
headline did your paper use for the U.S. team's stellar first World
Cup game?

Reality Czech. I think I saw it about four other places, and I wasn't trying to find it.
That was after nixing Czech Mate.
Czech, please?
Czech out time
Czech yourself
Gut Czech
U.S. team gets Czech up

As you can see, there's no shortage of these stupid things. Why do
papers insist on using them? My SE used it one of those in our paper, even though I tried to talk him out of it.

Czech yo' self before you wreck yo' self 'cause shots on goal are bad for your health

I just had the Cup game stripped across the top of the page ... nothing huge ... so I just used a straightforward "U.S. humiliated in World Cup opener" or something to that effect. We're in the season of all-county teams, so those have dominated our centerpieces.

we used reality czech as well. we really didn't put much thought in it.

I'm waiting for Shaq to go off in one of these games in the NBA finals, so our headline guy can use "Shaq and awe" which he thought of weeks ago, and I can just sit back and shake my head in disgust.
