President Trump 2.0: The NEW one and only politics thread

Curious, too, why these folks keep being sent to Louisiana. All the Venezuelan deportees were there, I think, briefly, and now this woman. I believe the Canadian woman who was detained was there.

Is this a federal lockup on a base, or a black site? Something that Sen. Foghorn Kennedy offered?

Back to Rumesya Ozturk for a minute.

She was arrested in broad daylight on a city street by masked people. We don't know that they're officers. We don't know for what agency they work. We don't know who they are at all.

She is apparently in ICE custody in Louisiana. Part of the charge against her is her byline on this op-ed. What has become of the other three people whose bylines are on this op-ed?

I'm not understanding why we aren't George Floyd-level outraged about this.

She's a furriner with a weird name + journalist! + East Coast + March Madness + plus the flood of all the other bullshirt = lack of outrage.

There are a bunch of ICE detention centers in Louisiana. I doubt they're all being taken to the same one.

It has been part of ICE's playbook to remove detainees from the area they live in order to make the incarceration even more unpleasant and encourage self-deportation. Immigrants from where I live (Durham) are routinely taken for holding at a facility that's 6+ hours away in Georgia.

They're also intentionally moving the high profile ones to Louisiana as part of their legal strategy. If they can get them down there before the immigrant's lawyer files for release, then the lawyer will need to file in Louisiana, which is in the ultra-conservative federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals jurisdiction. They're much more likely to get a friendly ruling there.

If the lawyer can file while the detainee is still in the state where they lived, even if in custody, then jurisdiction stays there.

1. What anti-American ideology is there at a freakin' zoo!?! Do they need to get rid of all animals not native to the USA? Do elephants have green cards?

2. I've been to the NMAAHC - unlike Trump and probably 99.9% of his toadies - and I do not remember it "proclaiming hard work, individualism and the nuclear family are aspects of White culture."
I've ALWAYS been suspicious of those Chinese pandas.

Trump warns U.S. carmakers not to take advantage of tariffs by hiking prices on consumers

Hey, dumbass, how about no tariffs in the first place.

That's exactly what happened when he put tariffs on foreign-made washing machines. American-made washing machines (and dryers!) increased in price as well to match the tariffs.

I mean at this point, there isn't really an "American" washing machine or a "foreign" washing machine. Except in the simplest of shirt, you're relying on transportation or production chains that are multi-national.
