Another deadline note _ we get an extra half-hour on Fridays during football and basketball season.

We hit that deadline, even though all of our prep stuff comes in after 10 p.m. And we still beat the news department, who has all of its local stuff by 8 p.m.

Lucky man. Our Friday deadline is earlier (ok, by 10 minutes - 11:20 vs. 11:30) on Friday nights...and, between the 50+ schools we have in our area, there are nights we're calling a coach on his cell phone at 1145 because dumbass didn't call the score in before heading to the bar and - apparently - it's more important to get every last detail in than to hit deadline.

Needless to say, we've blown deadline well out of the water every Friday night since preps started this fall. I think we might (key word: might) have beat midnight *once* in that span. Maybe.

But the paper still hits my door at about 6:15 Saturday morning, just like during the week.
