Do you shoot?

I know the 60 will be everything I need and more, but the 7 having the weatherproofing body keeps me going that way. 98% of my stuff will be done outside, in the snow, and cold.

I am looking for a site where I can buy used photo equipment. I thought there were some suggestions on this thread, but I didn't see any when I scrolled through them. Anyone know of a site where I can find used lenses?

In which I revive another dead photo thread (sorry).

I like keh.com for buying gear. Love it, in fact.

Digging this up..

Going to buy a new camera for myself and having a tough time deciding between the 60d and 7d. It will be for personal use - maybe for the resort if this job happens (marketing/events) and probably 50-50 between photo and video.

So, anyone have either or have used both and can help me figure out if I should really drop an extra $400 on the 7 vs the 60. Main thing for me is fps (5.7 vs 8'ish) and HD video.

Thanks.

I shoot Nikon so I can't comment on the bodies, but on the fps issue, 5 fps is all most sports shooters really needs. If you're just looking to get a few good shots, 5 is fine. I shot a D200 with 5 fps and then moved up to a D300 with 8 fps. The difference? I got a bunch of pictures in a series indistinguishable from each other. A D200 may have given me 2 shots of a play that were useable, and the D300 gave me 4 of the same play. Either in an online gallery or in the paper, the most you're going to use of one shot of a given series.

If you're shooting much outside, quit debating and just get the weatherproof body. No sense in bringing a plastic body into driving rain.

This is my first time to do anything baseball. Just took a couple in between games at the state tourney I had to cover. Thoughts?

Matt: I am not a technical guy, but what I see tells me that you have a terrific eye. You know the game. I would use almost any of those.

I didn't take it, one of our staff photogs did, but it's incredibly simple and I love it for some reason.

Framing a staged shot in your head is very important.

These are not sports photos, but they are some ones I thought about the angle and the background as much as the topic point.

Sometimes I like to keep my subject out of the center of the shot to give it a different look.

I believe the rule of thirds has already been mentioned in this thread, but it's worth mentioning again. A wise man once told me, "You must know the rule of thirds before you can break the rule of thirds."

I've been shooting for my weekly for the last two years (currently with a Nikon D300), and have learned over time how to juggle a camera and notepad. I'm lucky that my publisher's area of expertise (and decades of experience) is photojournalism, and I learn new stuff every day. I may post a few of my favorites a little later if I find time to shrink them to a manageable size.

This is one of my favorites from last fall. I'm in the process of updating my portfolio and, when I do, I'll post some of my others for critiques.
Oh, and for context sake, this football team had just won its first game in two seasons.

Those are really good.

A question for all...

Would you run a photo with a cropped ball? Not putting the basketball shot down, but it is a small peeve of mine.

Got this one today at the state amateur golf stroke play event.
If the man tending the pin looks familiar, it's because it's Michael Jack Schmidt.

Is he from Toledo?
