I'm sure he's trying to be funny. In a Carrot Top meets Gallagher kinda way.

Out of curiosity I googled a couple of names in the piece and the search results fit the references he makes.

I just can't get over what a prickish move it is. I think what bothers me the most about is, there's this implied thumbing of his nose at people with regular jobs. Just wrong.

He's no different than people who get so worked up on message boards they "out" someone who has offended them.

He's lost it. If he can't stand the hate-mail then get out of the business.

Funny thing about the emails he's so worked up over is they're not half as bad as the JV parent (or frosh, or youth league, or...) I get. I'm sure the same goes for most of the board.

Three of them are barely critical.

That's low class. That would be bush league even for a shock radio jock to do, much less a national guy working for CBS.

Let me say first that I know Gregg, like Gregg, like his work.

Still. One of my biggest regrets was the time I shot off a snippy, mean-spirited e-mail in response to a negative one I received. I stooped to their level and it didn't make me feel better. It made me feel worse.

This guy is a clown. He spoke at our state's AP sportswriters seminar last week during a session about "Writing for the Web" and all it was for an hour was a huge ego trip. He made references to columns like the one being discussed here and one of his responses to an unfavorable e-mail was like "Oh yeah? If you're so awesome why was your wife text-messaging me at midnight?" About as sophomoric as you could expect, so I wasn't surprised one bit at this thread.

Have you clicked on his bio and seen his creepy, digitally-animated self proclaiming that his sole mission is to rip players, teams and fellow columnist Mike Freeman?
