ESPN pay cuts?

It has to be considered a demotion. I'm guessing the $30m a year CBS days are done. Doubt Elon is giving him that much on Twitter. McAfee seems to have the "dude-bro" sports market for the most part. He's probably also lost listeners to Rogan. I kind of lost interest when he stopped booking his own show and just took whoever CBS Sports Radio wrangled up.

ESPN has always been the worldwide leader... in creating the environment for controversy, and then flogging that controversy to gain eyeballs and clicks.

That being said, Herbstreit has become particularly insufferable. I watched more college football this season than in a long while, and he's pretty much become an automatic channel change. His takes on Indiana in the CFP were forking awful.

Though, I do feel sorry about the the death of his very good dog.

Herbstreit has always come off as a phony. An empty suit who simply spews what his bosses tell him to spew.

"Kirk, we need you to give a tearful plea over George Floyd." "Okay."

"Kirk, cheerlead for the Big 10." "Okay."

"Kirk, the Big 10 didn't renew their contract with us. Eff them. I need you to talk up three-loss SEC teams." "Okay."

Herbstreit at Ohio State: 317 pass attempts, 5 touchdown passes, 11 interceptions.

The weekly selection committee rankings are a choice, though. They are entirely a made-for-TV product, one that arguably undercuts the committee's ability to do its job effectively by forcing it to create parameters for comparing teams before their resumes are fully formed. By and large, basketball waits until the weekend of to stack teams together and separate them accordingly. But if you chase the ratings, you can't complain about the results.
