ESPN fires MLB reporter Marly Rivera for calling fellow reporter ‘f–king c–t’

This is the behavior that some people are defending
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/04/27/marly-rivera-espn-baseball-fired/

Last week at Yankee Stadium, Ivon Gaete, a freelance TV reporter, was standing near the batting cage waiting for Yankees star Aaron Judge to finish signing autographs for a group of kids when Marly Rivera, a baseball reporter for ESPN, began screaming at her in Spanish.

Gaete asked Rivera if she was okay. Rivera responded sarcastically, "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know you speak English now." Rivera then said, within earshot of both Judge and the kids, 'What a f---ing c---."

Who knows what conversation she had with Judge earlier about an interview. ... but that video doesn't really look like she had an exclusive. He was signing autographs for kids and the two of them were just lurking around him.

Agreed.

There's usually a confused 15 or 20 minutes after BP when the players are behind the cage signing autographs for kids and shaking hands with VIPs.

Some number of reporters are hanging around as well. Some are up on the apron. Some are hovering in or near the dugout.

All of which is being overseen by a Yankees PR person or three.

What likely happened here is that one of those PR folks told Rivera Judge might have a word or two for her if she hung around.

Gaete cut in, and the rest is what we see in the recording.

Right. But let's say you are there in that situation. ... you are trying to get a minute with Judge for something you are working on, too. You start lurking to ask, and someone starts cursing at you. From what you just saw, would you be like, "Oh, she has an exclusive, my bad, I should respect that"? Or might you just be thinking, "She wants to talk to him too and she's being really aggressive with me"?

It actually looked like Judge just handled it. He said something like, "I can't do it right now, find me another time and I'll talk to you."

When people on here were talking about her crashing an exclusive, in my head I was seeing Rivera sitting with Judge in the dugout before the game, and this woman sticking a microphone or camera into her interview.

Rivera sounds like a handful. I think there was probably something said or done before the recording starts. Maybe one of the PR people said something like "try to grab him when he's done with the kids."

She's blustering as if she had staked out her space to get Judge, then Gaete and her videographer showed up behind her.

There's plenty of that kind of jockeying and annoyance - some of it pretty aggressive - on every big league beat.

What killed her was using the c-word in front of children on video.

Yep. Leave it to TMZ to have the video and that was pretty bad. Your company is in the midst of layoffs, don't give them a reason on a platter like that.
