My point is high schools aren't going to rent out their fields to non-high school football teams.

Why wouldn't they?

They rent out their gyms to non-high school basketball, volleyball and wrestling teams.

You can play 10 games a day in those sports and not tear up the gym. You play more than one or two games a week on football fields, you're going to incur larger maintenance costs. And it ain't cheap to turn on those lights for a few hours, either.

Bermuda grass fields are becoming very popular. They can take a ton of wear and keep bouncing back. I think they came up with a hybrid seed that could take the cold winters about 8-9 years ago, and because of this, you can play a lot more on the same field.

Not sure how far north these fields reach, but I think DC has a handful now.

Oh, lights for a field are nothing compared with heating or cooling a school on the weekend for an indoor activity.
True that.. and folks renting gym these days have to pay those costs.

The cost to start up a high school on a weekend starts at $300 and should be about $100 per hour.

Those are the break-even costs.

High schools not renting fields out to club football teams has nothing to do with wear and tear and everything to do with the fact that - when it comes to football - school districts take an extremely dim view of anybody infringing on their hold on their one remaining revenue sport.

If someone tried to start a "club" football league for high school kids down here there is no way in heck any school district would let them use their facilities.

That may be true, but there are more than enough facilities in our area, at least, which house everything up to under-14 youth programs.

Pretty sure they wouldn't have any qualms allowing the use of their facilities. Middle schools an elementary schools, which I know currently house clubs teams in sports like soccer and lacrosse, probably wouldn't have an issue with it either.

You watch -- if those club teams pay enough in rent, the school will fall over itself to offer its field. Money talks, blah blah blah.
