Gary Smith to retire

Anybody 60 years old with the means to retire should be able to do so without anybody questioning his reasons.

That being said, he is retiring from "SI magazine writing," which means maybe he'll write books or who knows what else.

I know it would be a lot more fun if he wrote till he was 85 and then we could debate how he's "lost his fastball." But he's denying us that pleasure.

Agree 100 percent with this.

The guy is 60 years old and has written for SI for like 30 years. In what way is it in the least bit strange that he would walk away at this point? It would be strange if he didn't.

Reagan was elected president when he was 68 or 69.

Correct.

Dominique Wilkins is the leading scorer in Atlanta Hawks history.

OK, who wants to post the next factoid that has nothing to do with the discussion?

Point.

You.

Nope. It's the other way around. I say it's not strange for someone to be ready for a new venture after 60. As a counterpoint, you present ... someone who was ready for a new venture after 60.

Politics was a new venture for Reagan at that point?

You're drowning here.
