My oldest five:

Idaho, dates from 2004, about a fantasy hoops league

IJAG, from 2006, about the old Secret Santa exchange

Sxysprtswrtr, from 2007, wishing me a happy Valentine's Day for some reason. She got me a UNCC long-sleeved tee for a Secret Santa gift, I still have it.

Johnny Dangerously, from 2007, about some gift I sent him. I got together with JD numerous times when he lived out here after moving from Baton Rouge. A great person.

Mizzougrad96, in 2007, about a columnist opening at the Register Guard. He thought he knew one of the three finalists.

I also still have a Rutgers hoodie and Duquesne and Georgia State tees from the Secret Santa era.

Upper Tupper pops up too, a guy from Tupper Lake, N.Y. Haven't seen anything from him in a long time. Also one from Moddy in 2014 about the death of a mutual friend from my Richmond days. And Frank Ridgeway, who I think passed away. He was a quality poster.

Yeah, Versatile was cool, and so was Tom Petty once you got to know him. Which took some effort: He could rip into other posters like few others, but we had some long DM conversations that really showed the better side of him.

I've always missed both those guys. And SF_Express most of all. His DM conversations were always the best.

Tom Petty wasn't a bad guy, but man, could he turn on you in a heartbeat.

My earliest was from zizzer, who also apparently went by mmm_beer (last login: March 2007) to me and farmerjerome, about going from newspapers to college athletics. It was from 2/5/2005. I think I had expressed an interest in going the SID route when I was trying to find something else to do.

I swear I was on this board earlier than 2004, as my username shows. Did we have a big crash that wiped everything out around then? If I remember correctly, we used to go days/weeks when the board wasn't accessible. Good thing I didn't first sign up on newsjournalists.com. :)

I was just thinking the other day about a poster I haven't seen in a while: Friend of the Friendless. Liked his 'Table for one' bio and signing off each message with YHS, etc.
