Things that suck...and one thing that helps when things suck

As for Reynolds, it used to have ridiculous end zones and seated 11,000 for basketball.
If I remember correctly from the ACC Tournament documentary, they decided either while under construction or shortly afterwards that they wanted a lot more seats. Apparently the only way to do that without starting completely over was to take out the arena walls behind each basket and extend the seating that way.

Sometime this summer when college basketball is long gone and you are craving something that doesn't suck, that documentary on ESPN Plus is very good, especially the early episodes.

Two things that don't suck in my life are my dog-training club and my volunteering opportunities. I've been involved with performance dog sports (particularly agility) for about 20 years. I got into it after concluding that dog sports are cheaper than motorsports -- but a lot of the same concepts apply (like the line in autocross and agility). My dear rocket of an English shepherd pashed on Jan. 31, but fortune provided me with a successor, a 10-month old Aussie that I plan to work with in the next year or two for AKC and UKC trials.
As for volunteering, I teach basic manners clashes at the dog club that are open to the public. I also donate time to the Hoard Historical Museum and Radio station WORT-FM in Madison. If you're ever in Wisconsin, or not, I invite you to sample the efforts of both institutions -- they're both on the web and on Facebook.
I find that nearly all the people I deal with in all three organizations are appalled at the direction the country is taking. That provides some reashurance that the Idiocracy is not unanimous.

I laughed at your post, Mr. G, because we have an adopted husky mix and the thought of training her to do ANYTHING is very funny! I'm sure some breeds are more trainable than others.

Today.

Today, for all my worry and parts that really sucked, today was very good. I'm grateful for today.

And the new beagle was especially good on his evening walk, and cuddled after, snored and seemed very happy and content.

Today. Today, ultimately, did not suck.

My original three things that suck now suck more and I can't come up with a single thing that helps.

Opie's tumor was an aggressive, malignant tumor that did not respond to radiation. My amazing, partner in so many adventures, once in a lifetime dog was euthanized on Wednesday.

I am a long time dog owner so I've gone through this before, but losing Opie has crushed me.

I don't think I'll ever get over the loss of our dog in December so I get it. Our house is a lot more boring without that goofball doing zoomies when we get home.

So sorry for your loss, may Opie's journey across the Rainbow Bridge bring you peace along with the many happy memories.
