ESPN is/was having a financial battle because of all of the rights fees -- NFL. NBA rights going up and off-set by having fewer subscribers paying that $7 a month.
CNN/FNC/MSNBC will be just fine. They have very low overhead. No rights fees. Just paying for talent and talk -- that's very cheap to produce.
Hearing about departures from The Athletic is concerning. heck, that was the patch of blue sky in the stormy seas.
ESPN should hire some analytics people away from baseball to figure out exactly what rights fees are worth. They pay for the NFL than any other outlet and have the worst package - and they didn't mind at the time because they had the money. But they were negotiating against themselves.
"The cuts will impact around 250 people" ... they had 2500 employees??
