Maybe I am too sensitive, but yes I cried.

I cried because there were people in those buildings.

I still cry about 9/11 today.

I'm sure I am not the only one.

Wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, etc. were taken from our planet.

Family.

That I cane relate to.

To say one doesn't waste tears on 9/11 is just plain cold.

There may have even been a dog or two that died that day.

Those that didn't cry over 9/11, that is fine. No one said everybody should have been in front of their TV weeping.

But to pubicly downplay the pain others felt and are still feeling is unethical, immoral and disgusting.

I once had a boss who laughed at everyone's misfortune, including mine. Would literally go on for hours making fun of crazy relatives and my coworkers. Would even laugh at some of the tragic stories I had for him that day.

When politicians are throwing around 9/11 like a forking campaign catchphrase, it's easy to become desensitized to the whole mess.

I don't see how he's downplaying the pain of other people.
He's expressing how he handled 9/11 on a personal level. I don't recall seeing anyplace in the column where he said how other people should have responded.
