Linball

The Heat were relentless. Very impressive. They were in playoff gear. If the Knicks are going to do anything, Anthony and Amare have to step up. Lin can't carry The Knicks.

I would say Chicago has a shot to beat the Heat in the playoffs, but I think that with five victories in a row over the Bulls or whatever it is, they are in Chicago's head a little bit at this point.

As far as Lin goes, I want to make it pretty clear that I'm rooting like heck for him. I was hoping that he would drop 40 and about 15 assists on the Heat last night. But that performance has to make you just a little bit skeptical until he can bounce back and string together some good games.

One word: Awesome.

I'm starting to really buy into the inevitability of the Heat winning the title this year. Not that thrashing the Knicks says a lot, but to me, they look like a much more cohesive team than the were last year. LeBron is playing really good basketball this season. Not settling for stupid threes, and trying to attack, attack, attack as much as he can.

OKC looks damn tough, too - and, like the Heat's win over the Knicks, not just because of their easy victory over the Lakers last night. I know he has issues and they could again flare up, but Westbrook is so, so good. With Ibaka and Perkins they match up well with the Lakers (who, damn it, can still be a threat in the playoffs, if they don't dump Gasol for garbage) and anyone who has offensive post threats. Durant's Durant, even if he's no Greg Oden. And Harden is an X-factor, fully capable of taking over on offense if you somehow stop both Durant and Westbrook. Throw in good role players and even though the West could be crazy in the playoffs, I think they're a fairly heavy favorite (sorry, not buying the Spurs. And I just think this season OKC would swamp the Mavs eventually). And would match up well with the Heat.

Could come down to homecourt. I can see Miami winning without it, but think the Thunder would need it more. And if they do have it, they have the biggest homecourt edge in the league in that college-like atmosphere.

That said, I still have Lakers winning it all.

Back to my a.m. drinking.

How solid is the rumor that the Bulls and Lakers are discussing a Boozer-for-Gasol swap? If that's serious, Gasol in Chicago would be a big boost for the Bulls vs. the Heat.

Not solid at all. As I understand it, Rose went into about a four-day pout because people reported his comment about this.

Why was this question asked in thread about Lin?

Why was this question asked in thread about Lin?

Because the discussion about the Heat's dominance last night led to a discussion about the Heat's chance of winning the title which led to a discussion about which teams might challenge them.

Keep up. :)

Because the NBA thread has 6 pages and no one reads it except for 8 people so when a thread develops that actually talks about the league, we sneak other NBA discussion in so the masses are forced to read it.

Also, is -sanity the new -gate?

The Asian American Journalists Association has released guidelines for Lin-related coverage:

It's amazing that some professional journalists need to be told not to use references to "driving," "eye shape," "fortune cookies," "martial arts," and especially:

"ME LOVE YOU LIN TIME": Avoid. This is a lazy pun on the athlete's name and alludes to the broken English of a Hollywood caricature from the 1980s.

Whitlock still would have written what he wanted.

This will only ensure that NPR does not send out something inappropriate. Fox? They'll soon be wondering how why Lin "speaks English so well."

In fairness, it's kind of hard not to talk about Lin driving the lane since it's the best part of his game.

One can do that without the "Look! Finally! An Asian who can drive!" references, which is what AAJA mentioned.

At least he stays mainly in the right lane.
