Microphone for iPhone help

The publisher of the magazine for which I write wants to start a feature where I interview folks while we're having a drink -- coffee or beer or a cocktail. Most coffee shops are pretty loud, with conversation and the blender and music, so I need to use some sort of microphone to record our conversations that will pick up the interviewee's voice over all the other stuff.

Have you had any luck with mics for your iPhone? I've seen at news conferences some small microphone-looking attachments on iPhones, but I never asked about them because I never needed one until now.
