My appendix

A sidebar story popped up on my Google News feed. Guy went to surgery to have his left testicle removed. They took the right one.

I wonder how it feels to own a hospital?

They bend over backward to prevent that kind of thing anymore. They use checklists. If say you are to have your left leg amputated a nurse takes a sharpie and writes "NO!" on both sides of your right leg. I don't know how they managed to do it, but the hospital's insurer will offer a huge settlement to keep it out from in front of a jury.

I had shoulder surgery years ago, and before it, I had written "YES" and "NO" on the correct and incorrect shoulders respectively, just in case.

The nurses came in to prep me, and immediately were, "We're scrubbing that off." I told them I wanted to be sure they were operating on the correct shoulder, and they rolled their eyes at me and started scrubbing.

If they had done the wrong shoulder that probably would have been worth a couple of hundred thousand extra.

shirt, I'd kick my lawyer's ass, given that he was having a bad testicle removed and they took the good, leaving him none. I'd be raging mad at everyone involved.
