Old people have no idea...

I still have a circa-1999 laptop version of that same iMac with the same coloration from when I was just starting out. I was pimpin' in the press box back in the day.

That ship still works, but I can't get a battery for it anymore and I have to plug it in with my yo-yo to turn it on (IYKYK).

It has a phone port for dial-up, but Wi-Fi was still just a rumor when it was made. Fortunately it has a USB port for a thumb drive. I haven't used it in probably 10 years if that.

USB wifi dongles are a thing. Check out something like PowerBookMedic for batteries.

They also have them for PC towers, which means you can put your computer where you want it and not be a slave to the house wiring.

You're not wrong, but in terms of speed and reliability, wifi is Donald Trump and good Cat-6 is Abe Lincoln.
You'd be surprised. Up until a couple of weeks ago I was doing my work from home job off a PC running off a USB stick for WiFi and connecting to the company VPN. Plenty fast for everything I needed.

I believe you. It could be good enough for your needs.

But you're for sure compromising speed. Wifi will never, ever be faster than copper.

*I'm sure this will be wrong in a few years
