Plane crash at Michigan air show

Apparently the plane went down in an apartment complex -- between buildings.

Still no reports of injuries on the ground.

Four hours later, the casualty list is holding at zero, which would qualify pretty much as a miracle.

If descriptions and photos of the crash scene are accurate, and I think they are, the plane went down maybe 200-300 yards from the I-94 freeway.

Google Maps

I know a pilot who was flying at that show, and his Facebook page was updated a few hours ago with information on his next show, so I'll assume it wasn't his plane that was involved.

It truly is a miracle that no one was killed. It hit between apartment buildings, and yes, it's very close to I-94. People line the sides of the roads near Willow Run Airport to watch the air show. While I'm not sure if they line the shoulders of I-94 anymore, they did when I drove past there to a former workplace years ago.

The two people in the MiG parachuted into Belleville Lake and were rescued. I'm guessing there were a lot of boats on the lake because it was a nice day and because of the air show.

I know it's a local thing, but when they said Willow Run Airport is in Ypsilanti and the plane crashed in Belleville, neither are true. The airport and crash site are in Van Buren Township (east of Ypsilanti and north of Belleville). Nothing like the facts getting in the way of a good story.
