I'd go with LCD just because the screens are less reflective. I don't see many other reasons to pick between the two. I like em both.
I own two LCD HDTVs: a 40" Samsung 1080 and a 42" LG 720.
The Samsung's colors are significantly better. The LG has better a better standard-def picture. I think anyone could get by with a 720; I don't see a need for 1080 televisions right now. So little of the programming is in 1080, and 720 sets can make that 1080 stuff look really nice anyway.
I'd stick with LG, Vizio or Westinghouse (in that order) if you're looking for a budget HDTV.
