Plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc. are going to be making so much money in the future because none of us have any idea on how to fix anything. They live a much better life than journalists, too, I'd imagine.
This is a running joke w/my Dad and I that we have absolutely zero handyman skills between us. He pays his landscaper in cash a few times a year to mow the lawn and take care of all the sundry details and does likewise in the winter for someone to snowblow his driveway. Both guys he uses have multiple employees, all of whom we assume are paid off the books. Good work if you can get it. For me and my wife, renting is like digging a giant hole and throwing money down there every month, but it's almost worth it not to have to worry when we discover the kitchen is leaking into the basement for some unknown reason. Call the landlord and one of the guys he pays cash will come and figure it out in about 10 minutes.
