Longtime reporter and broadcaster in Texas. He informed Lee Harvey Oswald that he was being charged with murdering JFK.

And he was also the voice of World Class Championship Wrestling during its 1980s heyday with the Von Erichs.

He lived to age 99. RIP

I found a signed copy of his memoir at an antique store in Clifton, Texas, a couple of weeks ago, and started reading it last week. I watched a lot of WCCW over the years, and I can just hear his voice as I'm reading what he wrote. He was very good at what he did.

Bill Mercer became a broadcasting professor at the University of North Texas and that school produces a lot of on-air talent that works in the Metroplex. He influenced certainly hundreds of broadcasters. RIP.

Lots of AM drive shows will be holding warm tributes in the morning.

That is one helluva career. RIP.
