RIP Charlie Maxwell

While Frank Lary was the official Yankees killer, "Paw Paw" was known for his Sunday heroics, the biggest coming when he hit home runs in four consecutive at-bats (he walked once) against New York in one doubleheader on May 3, 1959. At the time, the Tigers were off to a 2-15 start.

A solid fan favorite once he landed in Detroit after Boston had no room in their outfield for him. He manned left while Al Kaline had the other corner outfield position. Too bad he played during a stretch when the Tigers were bad or mediocre, sort of the Bobby Higginson of his day.

RIP.
