RIP CNN/SI's Fred Hickman

With those goofy graphics of people passing a basketball or hitting a tennis serve on CNN Headline Sports to try and get a score or a story every half hour.

Jerome and Van Earl were the only way an east coast kid could find out the score of the Trailblazers game before going to school the next morning.

Van Earl Wright left CNN to become the drive time star attraction of Detroit's new sports talk station, WDFN, in 1995
Only problem is he was horrible
He didn't know much about Detroit sports and as it turned out he didn't know much about sports at all
Callers would ask him a question and he'd invariably respond: "I don't know. What do YOU think?"
Van Earl didn't last long in Detroit

Also miss Jim Huber and those Jack Whitaker-like essays he'd do. Is he still on Turner Sports golf coverage?

He died several years ago. Huber was the first public relations director for the NHL's Atlanta Flames.
