RIP Dan Castellano (casty33)

A thread he began on 10/23/14:

No I'm not MacArthur but I will again be contributing on occasion if the spirit hits me. Some of you will remember me and illness has kept me away but I'm better now.

Much thanks to the bosses for helping me get a new password in order to rejoin.

And here's the oldest one on file from this iteration of SJ:

Mussina was 11-6 with a 3.76 ERA at the break but didn't make the team. Cliff Lee started the for the AL.

RIP Casty33llano. Thanks for the interactions.

Maybe you can start a game of Sheep with the other SJ'ers in the Great Beyond.

A young Castellano appears around the 28-minute mark of this video.

May he rest in peace

Wow. That's a lineup of some really good reporters, and the brief clip you pointed us to I saw had plenty of cliches, but he was borderline prophetic. RIP.

Joe Durso died in the early 2000s, Marty Noble a few years ago (I think) and now Castellano. Of course Ralph and McCarver are also gone.

I didn't know, either. Knew he stopped posting all those years ago, and we talked by PMs a few times afterward, I think, but I'd never heard that he had passed. I thought he just decided to stay away.

If he's gone, RIP Petty. He could be absolutely vicious in a flame war, but he was a good poster here regardless, and an even better guy when you got to know him. And even if it was just through PMs. ... He was a deep thinker, and a brooder, and a guy who couldn't stand corruption at any level, whether it be politics, corporate affairs or established trust of any kind.

We often talked by a stream of PMs here long after midnight, so many times.
If he's really passed, it hits hard for me. I always hoped to see him back here again.
Petty is gone? Damn if that's true. Hate to hear that. We had a flame war years ago and IJAG told us to knock it off. We did and became friends.
