Running 2017 MLB regular season thread

For those still awake and hankering to watch some baseball, Yanks-Cubs are in the bottom of the 16th on the WWL.

Chapman blew a three-run lead in the 9th. Teams have combined for 40+ strikeouts as Joe West has had a strike zone larger than a trio of Matt Harvey duffles

That's quite the mental image ...

I'm telling y'all, the button is magic.

Yeah, but you might get called small-minded by an acronym who lives hundreds of miles away from you on an internet message board. That's a big deterrent to its widespread use.

MLB record 48 strikeouts in the game. That's 8 gosh darn innings worth of strikeouts - in one game!

Looks like three guys -- including Castro, who is now tied for the league lead in batting average -- went 0 for 8, and another went 0 for 7.

Steve Sax had a 25-game hitting streak in '86 that ended on a day he went to the plate 7 times.

Sax Goes 0 for 7, Dodgers Go 5:45 and Lose, 6-5 : 52 Players See Action Before Brenly's Hit Helps Giants Win in 16th Inning

SAN FRANCISCO — It was a long day for the Dodgers.

It took the Dodgers 5 hours 45 minutes to lose to the San Francisco Giants, 6-5, Sunday and Steve Sax, despite going to the plate seven times, failed to extend his 25-game hitting streak.

Sax is now hitting .326, while Montreal's Tim Raines, the National League leader, remains at .337. San Diego's Tony Gwynn is hitting .329.

The Dodgers used 27 players, tying a major league record, and the Giants used 25. The total of 52 players used is one shy of the major league record. The Giants set a record by stranding 22 baserunners.

I remember this game. Even in September, with all the callups, Giants used two pitchers in the outfield at times.
